-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So glad that you are interested in joining us for our caning party! On Saturday, October 6th we will be getting together in Fairfield to can together. Each participant will be asked to commit in advanced as supplies and produce will be purchased ahead of time. Most of the ingredients will be provided and all the produce will be locally sourced and organic.
The menu for the End of Summer Flavors Canning Party is:
Marinated Roasted Red Peppers
Escabeche Jalapenos y Serranos
Roasted Green Chili Salsa
Basic Marinara Sauce
Apricot Slinging Jam
Apple Butter
Strawberry Freezer Jam
What Do I Need to Bring?
- Jars (You will receive advanced notice of how much we will be making based on the number of caners)
- Large Bowl
- Knife (Paring or Chopping)
- Large Stock Pot or Canning Pot
- Flat Steamer Rack
- Peeled Tomatoes (On Thursday night caners can pick up their portion of tomatoes to take home and blanch and peel prior to Saturday morning)
Depending on the number of participants (the more caners the cheaper it is!), the canning party won't cost more then $25 per person but is usually around $20 per person.
How Much Do I Get
Again, depending on the number of participants (the more caners the more we can do!), the canning party yield is usually 2 jars of each item with the exception of the salsa and marinara, that typically yields 4 jars per person. So that's a total of 18 jars, but remember it depends on the number of caners!
Note: menu is subject to change based on produc availability. The menu was crafted based on the typical local harvest at the time but variations may be made. Caners with any food allergies or severe dislikes should be up front with them. The week of the party the final menu will be distributed. (Also, bartering between caners has been known to happen!)
